If it wasn't for those people, the economy would be fine. It's not only
those that are not spending. It's people with jobs, but worried about job security and the economy. What a stupid headline.

Ya think? Damn them for not spending all the money they don't have and don't have a way to earn.

Though forecasters see growth ahead, it'll still feel like recession to many |

as stupid as it sounds, it hits the nail right on the head. it's what makes recessions so tricky to deal with.

One good bit of advice I got from my dad. He told me to never cash them in unless I was absolutely desperate. I've got somewhere around 100 oz.

I touched on this just a bit in one of WWII's Economy themed threads.....
Someone, had said in that thread that they thought people were not spending because they were saving for hard times......This is what I am seeing locally......Those who have secure jobs, such as the professionals like Lawyers, Drs. Nurses, or those who work in industries not effected much by Economy, like Trash Disposal...don't laugh its true.....Are still spending/saving about the same amounts as always...But it is being distributed a little different. As Consumer prices increase in certain areas such as gas and food then the household budget is not increased or decreased, but the monies are distributed into other areas as needed, with the "Extras and Spending " money being the well from which it is drawn.....For Example when the car fuel and grocery bills increase, rather than cut back or decrease what they put in their savings they are cutting back what they allow family members to spend on cell phone bills, they eat out less, rent or buy movies to be watched at home, rather than go to the theatre and such as that...So the amount they are spending is still the same, its just being spent differently...... And then there is yes the other side.....in this rural farming area that I live in, many are either laid off, suffered cut backs or re employed with jobs that are below the income level they had previously enjoyed......and yes those people are nervous and scared and are not making large item purchases such as cars , major home appliances, home improvements or expensive trips/vacations......And for the under or unemployed there simply is not money to Spend or save....I know this is a hard thing for some to grasp, but ya just can't spend what ya don't have and putting money in a savings account when the gas, electric and water man is standing at your door to Disconnect you if you don't pay up by 5 O'clock today, just Don't, won't and ain't gonna happen. As I said in the other thread, when Joe don't have the money for a six pack, then Louie the liquor man, don't order as many 6 pks from the distributor, the distributor don't order from the brewery, the brewery slows down, Jane is laid off and the cycle continues...... Do I have any solutions...No I wish I did....But thoughts and opinions and continued consumerism as I have always done, is all I have....We in this household have been "Lucky" in more ways than one and have not had to "cut back" or redistribute our monies, and in fact have increased our consumer spending, bought things we had just been putting off, hoping it will in its own small way help the consumer economy. I have little else to offer except this......HEY YOU SAVERS FOR HARD TIMES...THIS "IS" THE HARD TIMES....LOL....YOU MIGHT BE SAVING YOUR OWN JOB IF YOU GO AHEAD AND BUY THAT CAR, FRIDGE OR NEW COMPUTER! |
